My hamster has been suffering wet tail for awile now. She started getting sick on Wed., and then we took her to the vet. on sunday. He gave us medicine and all, but it only helped a little. She has a bit more energy and her tail is a bit more dry but she is still incredible weak and her back is still hunched up. I just wanted to know is it usual for hamsters to have a slow recovery or fast? Cause if she is not recovering as fast as she needs to be, i need to take her to the vet.

Usually hamsters dont survive wet tail. But they can when properly taken care of. it was very smart of you to run her to the vet, otherwise she would have died the next day. Ive worked in a store that sold hamsters and wet tail was common because of the stress. only one out of the many that got it survived. i hope hope hope your little girl makes it. if shes eating and drinking and takin her meds, i think she should be ok.
good luck :)
oh and from what i saw, it took a little longer than a week to recover. well, fully recover.

Keep in mind it's hard to tell how much energy she has, as hamsters are nocturnal. The most severe problem of wet tail is diarrhea, which will cause them to become severely dehydrated or refuse to eat. She may smell very bad, too. Wet tail is usually caused by stress, so if you recently got her, that's probably what caused it. Don't handle or bother her too much and watch and see if she begins to improve. If it lasts over 2 weeks, try a different medication from a pet store or somewhere else and hope for the best.

It does take a while, as this is quite a debilitating disease for such a small creature. I her diarrhoea has completely cleared up, she's out of the woods and should be OK, you just need to keep a close eye that it doesn't return - as long as she is eating and drinking plenty and passing proper pellets she should be OK.

Please disregard the person who said 'try a different medicine from a pet store' - wet tail requires antibiotics, which are not available in pet stores - pet stores are for animals, food, bedding and toys, not medication!

one among my hamsters had moist tail, the sphere close to the tail grow to be as quickly as moist and greasy looking at, it particularly is approximately each and all the seen alerts, different than for a style of sound asleep (my hamster purely slept and decrease than no situations did despite the fact that else). purely take it to the puppy shop the place you obtained it or the vet i assume. I obtained 2 hamsters and one had moist tail, we had to take him lower back to the puppy shop.
