That's all good and fine keep working out but also get a pair of strength shoes. They work wonders you'll see results in a couple of weeks if you follow the workout, after a few months your game will go to another level.

It is possible to increase your vertical jump by 5 inches. However, there are many variables involved. Age, ability, motivation, physical build, and access to proper equipment are but a few. Is it safe to assume that your goal involves athletics? Perhaps the fastest way to gain 5 inches in vertical jump is to use a piece of weight lifting equipment called..."duh", the LEAPER. Most high school and college gymnasiums use them for their basketball teams. You can also probably have access to this equipment by signing up for summer basketball camp. You can also use a weighted belt and jump up and down vigorously a thousand times a day. It sounds humdrum but it will work. You could jump 5X higher within a year if you put your mind to it. Good luck!

you need to do simply that: JUMP!!! squatting, leg pressing and calf workouts only train what is called slow-twitch muscle. this does not help you in your jumping aspect. granted it will make you stronger, you need to train the fast-twitch muscles in your legs. try getting on a plyometrics workout 2-3 times per week. this will increase your vertical.
i have done this for the past 4 months and my vertical jump has increased 9 inches.

This is the third time I've answered this question. As the guy said before lifting your legs wont do much for you. It actually might hurt alittle, if you get to bulky it gets very hard to jump. Here is what I suggested to the other guys:
"My coach in high school used to have us jump rope to increase our verticals. Also, he made us run hills and bleachers on our toes. It burns like hell but definitely helps alot.
I also used to do 4 sets of 100 small jumps reaching to touch a high door way. That also helped. I am about 5'9 and I could almost stuff a full size basketball when I reached senior year of high school."

You need to do squats, calf presses, and just start jumping grabbing the rim. After you can grab the rim on a consistant bases start dunking with a tennis ball, then baseball, softball, womens basketball, and then mens basketball. You'll get there. But don't stop doing your squats and calf presses.

Go to any sporting goods store and find ankle weights. All they are is a strap that wraps around your ankles and velcros. It is full of sand to weigh it down. You can get different weight sizes. When I was in junior high and high school I would were them under my pants when I would go to school everyday. You cant see them under your pants and they are a cheap and effective (and simple) way to boost your hops. Good Luck!
