They said the reason for this is to keep all the sexual predators away from the kids.
I guess they are trying to eliminate the competition!

touche, if I was a brighter computer user I'd mail this question to the catholic school that just expelled my daughter for having a friendster account, but don't have the skills to do it, together with the video clip of that creep jesuit in alaska

I have heard that some schools (Catholic and Otherwise) are banning MySpace.com from their school's proxy servers. Though I do not think that the schools are causing students to not have MySpace outside of schools. To insist on this policy I would think would be a violation of your right to express yourself on your own private time.

Though I would not say that banning MySpace would be a bad thing. MySpace is chock-full of predators, perverts, and sick-o's who are just looking for a cheap thrill or are looking for a way to scam money out of gullible people.

...and then there's the reality of the situation: Catholic schools are private schools. Any private school can set policy such as banning myspace accounts. Private schools are not constricted by the same politically correct standards as public schools are.

Students who don't like this policy can get an education someplace else if they don't like it.

It's that simple, really.

I think, from the point of view of a large religious organisation with thousands of years of research into literature, they should have some theological reasons to back it up with.

Here is a scripture from the Bible about reasoning.
Isaiah 1:18
"Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."

I get the joke, but I think it was just one particular school. Not too sure if it is all Catholic schools.

I think its not such bad idea for other public schools either. People waste too much time on that stupid thing.
