The edge of a cube was found to be 10 cm with a possible error in measurement of 0.2 cm.

(a) Use differentials to estimate the maximum possible error in computing the volume of the cube.

♠ v=x^3, dv=3x^2*dx; thus Δv=3*10*10*0.2 =±60 cm^3;
δv= Δv/v =60/(10^3)= ±0.06 = ±6%
♣ A=6*x^2, dA=6*2x*dx; thus ΔA=12*10*0.2 =±24 cm^2;
δA= ΔA/A =24/(6*10*10) =±0.04 = ±4%;
