Purple.

Purple is considered the royal color due to economics not aesthetics. Cleopatra loved purple. To obtain one ounce of Tyrian purple dye, she had her servants soak 20,000 snails for 10 days.

Purple clothing was so expensive only the royal family could afford it. It was extracted from a small gastropod mollusk found in all seas or from a crustacean called a Trumpet Shell or Purple Fish, found near Tyre on the Mediterranean coast.

Their body secreted a deep purple fluid which was harvested by cracking the shell and digging out a vein located near the shellfish head with a small pointed utensil. The mucus-like contents of the veins were then mixed together and spread on silk or linen. Estimates are that it took 8,500 shellfish to produce one gram of the dye, hence the fact this dye was worth more than its weight in gold.

When I think of royalty I usually think of purple and gold together as they are a nice combination. Also another obvious colour would be the colour of royal blue, which is a dark blue colour. If you want to dress up for an occasion though, I would recommend the purple and gold, but remember to make sure those colours suit your skin and have fun!!!!

In western civilization, purple. In China, yellow.

For centuries in both societies there was a proscription against anyone wearing the royal color unless they were of royal blood. In China, this proscription lasted until the early 20th century.

Also, the amount of the royal color a royal person was entitled to wear was based on their status as well. A cousin got a thin band. A sibling NOT in line for the throne got wide bands. An heir got an entire item of clothing. And the head honcho got to wear the color any which of a way he wanted.
