I think that he tells the truth. He seems like he wants to save these people from investing a lot of time on dreams that will never happen for them. That being said, he is rude because he could be a little bit nicer about it, but that wouldn't get good ratings.

Simon has made his millions based on his ability to recognize true talent. He's sincere but not a salesman. He's the buyer, not the seller when contestants stand in front of him for his critiques and he knows his stuff.

I think the guy is a good balance to the other two, You get realistic feedback from him, I imagine that the real entertainment industry is probably even more cruel and chews up and spits people out, at least this guy tells the contestant the way it is and if the contestant has the true desire, he or she will make it no matter what anyone says

He is a sincere salesman. Admit that the man is brutally honest. He managed Spice-Girls then, and he is managing the Beckhams now. His brutality is very well paid off.

If I were any of the American Idols right now I would listen to him very carefully and do exactly as he says.

Probably some of both. He's being honest, but at the same time he's hamming it up for the cameras--he has an image to maintain. Personally, i like him.

He is indeed sincere. He is abrasive, curt, and sometimes cruel...but you can be sure he gives his heartfelt opinion, with no reservation. At least you know he'll never lie to you.
