if we continue to fight insurgents in iraq, we continue to create more enemies and the conflict continues. if we pull out, then we have 3/4 of the world who hates us and is threatening to bomb us coming over here and causing chaos. living in a democracy, insurgents have this ability. what should be done?is a 3rd option necessary? i mean, would it be better to start making ammends with iran and increase sympathy so our own borders are better protected today and in the future. how to increase sympathy? in 2003 iran offered to help out with iraq, we denied assistance. we americans are very arrogant and do not listen to their needs. should we begin listening to iran a little more?

Iraq is a symptom of a religion in conflict.
The 15% of muslims that are sheites are empowered by their ability to vote. The other countries in the region all oppress them, and we have created a threat. So they are sending "insurgents" in to destroy the sheites, and us.

Iran was known to arm it's soldiers with plastic keys to paradise tied around their necks. No real help coming from a county that turns its citizens to fodder.

Unfortunately the muslim culture is looking at the industrial world as a place to become a "wage slave".
It's easy for them to only see that since they are 'mullah slaves" now.
They need to get along. They can do it in this world or the next. This thought needs to be directly applied to the black toweled heads. They need a muslim mullah association, that can claim to have global interests rather that sectarian ones. Maybe a UN muslim group, to get common decrees and control sociopathic mullahs.

What's this I read - an American talking about himself as being 'arrogant'? You've earnt my respect Sir, you ask what we should do about Iraq.

We should never have gone there, when I say we, I mean any nation that was involved with the toppling of Sadam Hussein, not because he was right, but because what Iraq has become now, is far worse. Why? Simply, because America predominantly, be here in the UK we're at fault as well, went there with no clear plan on what to do after we removed the old regime.

Well it's as clear as mud what we start doing now and that's communicating with these people and when I say communicating, I mean in THEIR BLOODY LANGUAGE.

All the troops there and the ones that are yet to go there need to learn the iraqi form of arabic and any other language that is used there - and when I say learn the language, I mean LEARN IT! Not just the official language, but the colloquial langauge, the slang words and phrases, the swear words! Why? So that we can start communicating with these people at the human level - on their own terms, at the street level.
Be able to make a joke, make someone there laugh heartily in their own langauge about something. In essense we need to be able to 'connect' with people there - need to gain there respect let alone trust - with time that might come later.

The second thing we need to do, is to somehow 'wean' them off this bloody religious nonsense. Apart from all the people getting hurt and killed from the various different countries' armed forces we've got the ludicrous situation where MUSLIMS ARE KILLING MUSLIMS, because they believe in a different prophet or teaching of the same religion. You've got Sunnis and Shias and Kurds and they all need to be brought back from the brink and this isn't going to be easy - and although Saddam Hussein was a dictator that apparently killed a lot of innocent people, he did have control of his country and there were hospitals and electricity and clean running water etc., and I've heard many iraqis there say that it is worse than before.

Religion is this country's real problem. It's no good banning people from their religion, but you can have an alternative if indeed that alternative exists. I remember even with all the bombs and bullets the amazing turnout when they were given the chance to vote. But it's all become a hollow sham - there needs to be real leadership there, because all these people have known up until now is religious tyranny!

Unfortunately, just to get things back on an 'even keel' at the moment, the country needs to be run with very strict controls and curfews so that no one is able to let off a car bomb or suicide bomb in the first place! Don't stop them going to their mosques, but monitor everthing they do inside and out!

Also, having an amnesty for weapons might be a good start, where, say, once a week you can put your weapons out on the street or take them to a pre-determined location.

We need to make sure all the boarders to Iran and various other 'dubious' countries have stringent security in place. To begin with, the whole country needs to be run, in a way, ironically enough, that is not to disimilar to what was in place before we invaded, with ONE VITAL DIFFERENCE - that the people who live there, are not in fear of their lives if they want to COMPLAIN about something or even SUGGEST something - these people don't understand what democracy is and they won't until they see there is a choice other than the centuries of religious indoctrination that they have been forced to endure.

They will need to be strictly controlled at first until order is restored and people can go about their lives in safety, but this cannot happen until they have learnt to respect us the outside world and each other. They have to learn to put their centuries old greivenses in the past.

It is possible to overcome peoples who are diametrically apposed to each other - look what is happening with Jerry Adam and The Reverend Ian Paisley in Northern Ireland!!!

As a veteran I believe we should finish what we started there and if the people of Iraq do not want us there, they should speak up and then we should leave and let them handle thier problem the way they see fit and continue to live the way they did before we got there of course if they or any other terrorist murders any more of our Citizens like they did in New York then we should deal with them without mercy.

That's a decision for the Iraqis to choose for themselves. We have given them autonomy--a democratically elected government, minus Saddam and his henchmen. It's up to the Iraq government to build their own armies and police forces and to re-build their infrastructure, and to stop the sectarian violence. The US can only do so much. We've opened the door for them. Whether or not they choose to enter in is up to them to decide. I think our time is done. We did our job. We gave them a chance to be a free nation. The rest is up to them. Iran should follow suit and keep their noses out of Iraq's business. They should backoff where they aren't wanted or needed.

"What does Iraq do for the USA??" Iraq was once firing on USAF fighter jets patrolling no-fly zones over Iraq practically day-to-day in the course of a 1991 Gulf War ceasefire contract and Saddam Hussein's failed strive assassination on former U.S. President H.W. Bush Sr even as on a go back and forth to Kuwait in 1993. An assault on our no-fly zone patrols and an strive assassination on former U.S. President H.W. Bush Sr is an assault on our nation, you cannot selected one. But this isn't to? justify the invasion, handiest to factor out the truth that Iraq is some distance from innocent for the invasion. Those assaults are nonetheless an assault on our nation. "They are our best friend however what do they do for us?????" Not anymore while Iraqi troops below Saddam Hussein invaded their neighbor to the south and our best friend referred to as Kuwait in August 1990. "We gave them freedom and in flip what did we get????" WE DID GAVE THEM FREEDOM. But we get not anything in go back. The obstacle is insurgency filling in after Saddam Hussein's regime was once deposed and we spend on cash rebuilding it.

We have given them what they need to live free lives. Now they have to do for themselves. So I say we move on to Iran. After we kick the crap out of them, the rest of Iraq's problems will be solved.
Besides most of the people in Iran want to be free too.

Iran is a terrorist supporting state.

No, we should NOT be listening to Iran.

I say if we're going to be hated, anyway, let's stay and finish the job in Iraq. We have nothing to lose.
