In the first American census, how many people were counted as slaves? What proportion of the whole U.S. population were they?

I'm including the actual census of 1790. Page four of the document gives you a chart. Total population in 1790 in the states was 3,893,635.

Total slave population was 694,280. which comes out to about 17% of the total population.

17% .if i remember correctly, that's the %
theres more blacks in Mississippi now then whites
theres 12 % black people in the states.
most are still living in the south even though the north had slaves also.
