I recently upgraded my computer motherboard and processor. I bought an AMD anthlon 64 3000+ processor to replace my anthlon XP (tm) 2600+. After installing the new processor and motherboard, my computer detects the new processor to be a Sampron (tm) 3000+ instead of a Anthlon 64 3000+.

To be honest, my Pc is faster than before, but I wonder if the seller scamed me by mailing a Sampron 3000+ instead of an anthlon 64 3000+ . Or maybe he mailed me the right processor (anthlon 64 3000+) but my computer is detecting it wrong. Please help....if you are familiar with the situation.

You can download a free program from a website called AIDA32. It's a small program and you don't even have to install it. Just double click it will do.

AIDA32 will tell you exactly what kind of processor you have and other information that you need. Great Program!

There are two ways to check this:

Device Manager:
1- Click Start
2- Click control panel
3- Double click System icon. On the first page you will see a listing for your processor. For further info:
4- Click on the Hardware tab.
5- Click on Device Manager
6- Expand the entry for Processors

DXDiag:
1- click start
2- click run
3- type dxdiag into the run dialog box and press enter
4- on the first page it will list critical system info.

If you are feeling really jipped, you could also remove the processor and read the etchings on the side of it. It will give you a serial number that you can give to AMD to get the story from the horse's mouth.

This is really the best thing to download, so see what processor you have installed, and what speed it's running, along with how much cache it has, etc: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php The page is kind of weird, the download link is in the upper left hand corner. It's a good program, though.

You have the Sampron 3000 if that is what your computer is telling you is the installed processor. If it seems alot fast i would stick with it. I have a AMD in my laptop and the only problem I have had with it is heat issues which I resolved with a fan that sits underneath the computer. :) takecare
