hi, im reading a text book on maths, and am woundering if its me or them that wrong??

here's what they have done + there answer:
2.5 x (26.92)^0.33 = 8.94 or rounded up to 9

this is what i get:

2.5 x (26.92)^0.33 =

26.92^0.33 = 2.9643

now it becomes

2.5 x 2.9643 = 7.41075

i have used my methods with other numbers and get the correct result, but just wannted to 100% cause it is a maths text book afterall.......

You are correct. The order of operations is critical and you have to take the power before performing the multiplication.

I note you are rounding to one significant figure - this one rounds down to 7.

Well done on knowing your stuff - text books aren't always right (but they usually are!)

Honestly, I think your book is wrong. the cube root of 26.92 is less than 3, but only by a hair, so I'll say it's 3. 2.5 times 3 is 7.5. Because of rounding, your answer is correct. I checked to make sure I was doing order of operations correctly, etc. The only problem might be if you typed it wrong or they're wrong. Judging by your shocked manner of being, you'd be sure to type it correctly, therefore they are wrong. :)

They are human after all...

You are definitely correct.
Take an approximate value.
26.92 = 27 approx
Cube root of 27 = 3
3 * 2.5 = 7.5
So, it can't be 9.
It has to be less than 7.5, which is why your ans is correct.

You are correct.
2.5 x (26.92)º.³³ =
0,33... = 3/9 = 1/3
^¹/³ = ³\/
So,
2.5 x (26.92)¹/³ =
2.5 x 2³\/339 =
= 5³\/339 = 7.41
