I'm looking for a long, intelligent debate between a theist and an atheist that doesn't have an audience, just the debaters and perhaps a moderator. All the ones I have found for some reason have audiences. I get very irritated by the biases of the audience and the cheering or laughing etc.. It's not only irritating but also distracting.

Another problem with those audience types is that the format makes it impossible for every point to be addressed. You end up simply hearing two positions but not really solving anything.

The only one I found that was excellent in this regard was an audio debate between Richard Dawkins and David Quinn. There was no audience, and they countered each other point to point. Unfortunately there wasn't enough time, barely more than 15 minutes.

So if anyone knows where else I can find such a debate either in audio or video format I would be very grateful. Thank you.

It can also be in text format.

Have you seen the movie "Inherit the Wind?" It's about the 1925 Scopes Trial. Being about evolution, it's not strictly a debate between christians and atheists, but it does deal with some theological elements.

You can participate on either side of the debate at Wasteland of Wonders on EZboard.com. This is an atheist board, but one that is very tolerant of believers who do not preach. You would have to get to know who's who at first, but it contains a sector where two debaters square off against each other on a particular contententious point.

there is no debate. God has to exist in some form or another. In the most conservative argument, God can be easily interpreted as "nature", and nature exists all around us. Every effect must have a cause...how did the first "cause" happen? There has to be a point where science has no place and only a divine cause is logical. The real debate is what form does God take?

What a load of steaming dung. i concept that the region grew to become into going to be an psychological attitude on atheism. i think of it does not evaluate the variety and complexity of the atheist community. It appeared like the equivalent of an internet site asserting that each and one and all theist are one way and various from atheist. My factor is human beings variety from individual to individual, and the region made atheism look like the purpose information that persons come to and then replace into atheist. I even have had my moments the place the potential of a god appeared questionable, I even understand why human beings replace into atheist, yet I nevertheless chosen to have faith in a extra advantageous power than myself, regardless of what ever good judgment grew to become into offered to me. the region mentions misconceptions human beings ave approximately atheism jointly as stating false impression approximately theism. faith is seen as a punishment/reward gadget given which you elect to make certain it that way. besides the shown fact that that's certainly a results of selection.

Google Richard Dawkins, you'll get some results, although probably not what you're looking for. I'm looking for the same sort of thiing, so hope if you find it, you'll share. I keep dangling my toe in the internet waters, like Yahoo answer, but get so quickly discouraged by the quality, tone and spelling of the answers...

This is a debate between an atheist professor and a theist student.

Does evil exist?

The university professor challenged his students with this question. Did God create everything that exists? A student bravely replied, "Yes, he did!"

"God created everything? The professor asked.

"Yes sir", the student replied.

The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God created evil since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are then God is evil". The student became quiet before such an answer. The professor was quite pleased with himself and boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "Can I ask you a question professor?"

"Of course", replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?"

"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?" The students snickered at the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 degrees F) is the total absence of heat; all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat."

The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?"

The professor responded, "Of course it does."

The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"

Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course as I have already said. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil."

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not like faith, or love that exist just as does light and heat. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down.

The young man's name — Albert Einstein.
