What is the difference in Jp court and regular court? What type of crime does the JP court handle?

justice of the peace is a retired judge. they have the ability to do whatever a full time judge does if they are filling in for a regular judge. normally they preside over contracts, such as weddings, or bail hearings. they can also do criminal cases in district court when the need arises. rarely a JP will return to the bench in a civil trail, but that normally does not happen unless it is a settlement vs an actual trial. at leat that is what happens in this state. who knows what else they might do in other states.
