I have just upgraded my antivirus software (mcafee total plus), and when installing, it is telling me that i need to remove/uninstall 'ca etrust antivirus' otherwise i won't be able to have spam protection, anti virus or privacy. I cannot find this anywhere on my laptop (not in add/remove programs).

Does anyone know where this could be and how I can remove it?

Thanks

option could be to follow this

http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106741

"The usual way of doing this is to reinstall the program and then
uninstall it again.
If that doesn't work Look in C:\Windows for a file named UnVet32.exe,
if it's still there it means that EZAV didn't uninstall correctly.
If UnVet32.exe is still in C:\Windows you'll need to boot into Safe
Mode, and then click:

1. Start->Run->and type in: unvet32.exe
Pay attention to what the uninstaller displays, if it can't remove
something you'll have to delete it manually.

2. Depending upon how badly the uninstaller failed after you've ran it
you "may" need to manually delete the following:
* C:\Windows\AVShlExt.dll
* C:\Windows\System32\ISafeIf.dll
* C:\Windows\System32\iSafProd.dll
* C:\Windows\System32\VetRedir.dll
* C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\VetEBoot.sys
* C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\VetEFile.sys
* C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\VetFDDNT.sys
* C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Vet-Filt.sys
* C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\VetMonNT.sys
* C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Vet-Rec.sys
* C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust EZ Armor\eTrust EZ Antivirus
* The EZAV start menu program group located in Start->All Programs
* In the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\Ant i-Virus

If EZAV is the only eTrust software you've ever installed it should be
safe to remove in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates

If you had to manually remove any files run UnVet32.exe again to see
what it displays. If it displays a successful message it will delete
itself, thus a complete uninstall."

this is what you can do,

if the etrust software is not getting uninstalled , let it not be, you
can disable any service or startup agent from this software and then
try reinstaling the mcafee application,

Start >> run>> msconfig >>

clcik on the STARTUP tab on top right, click disable all >> click apply

click on the SERVICEStab to the left of startup, put check mark
against ***"HIDE ALL MICROSOFT SERVICES"*** click disable all and
click on apply, clcik on CLOSE

Restart the system when it prompts, on restart put check mark against
**donot show this message or launch system configuration utility at
startup** and clcik on ok

Reinstall mcafee

WILL WORK LIKE A CHARM

If your CA program is part of the Online Protection Package provided by one to the phone company/Yahoo DSL package go to Add/Remove Programs and look for a listing that uses the phone company name/Yahoo Applications (Note the word Applications). Click on Remove and a window will open. Check the box you want to uninstall and click the Uninstall button.

Mcafee is not a user friendly programme, it caused me no end of grief when i installed it. Norton is better. But just open your search programme , type in the name of virus, click search and that should find it, then just delete it. Reinstall Macafee.

you could try to mail etrust costumers support. however i must say mcafee slows a computer and is not compatible with more programs not etrust only.

It's right, you need to uninstall it.

You might need to reinstall to remove it if you can't figure out any other way.
