American quality huh.......LOL

It is not the engine that gives most people trouble.

AWD with high H.P and traction control can tear up a transmission easy by a driver who does not know how to drive it correctly.

Many people complain about the stock clutch, but it is made soft for a reason. People who try to hammer it off the line in a AWD will tear up the tranny if the clutch is too strong and wont slip. The folks at mitsubishi know this so they give the car a weak clutch to prevent rookie drivers from destroying the tranny.

Consider it a traning clutch, if you dont make it slip then you are driving the car properly.

I reccomend you use the stock clutch until you learn how to make it not slip, then you will know that you are ready for a clutch upgrade.

If you learn how to handle what you have then longevity wont be a issue. The engines in these are a marvel of modern engenering! I have put 20k miles on my evo that has over 700 AWHP. It is amazing that that much power can come from a 2 liter engine yet the engine still last a long time. Its brilliant!

Think quality, buy American? Ha! Anyhow, the Evo MR has the 4G63 in it. My Eclipse GSX and Laser RS (both made in America btw) both have the same engine with over 100K, and both see the track. The "problems" people have is with modifying these cars incorrectly. If you know what you are doing, you won't have a problem. I have a friend with an EVO 8 MR, with just under 40K, and he hasn't had a lick of trouble, even after a few mods. He's had less trouble than some people with 2007 Chrysler Minivans.

Keep it well maintained and don't overboost unless you know what you are doing, and it will last a long time.

I know a guy that runs 11's in his 300GT with over 200k on it.

Like any car, just take care of it. Mitsu 2.0's have been around forever. And there are thousands on the road pushing 20+psi.... if they sucked so much, how could they handle the boost being jacked up so much?

if you keep up the maintenance and then it should last lat lest 200k miles but if your racing it out or drifting you wont make it to 200k without getting a new engine
