You can use your milk to do it too. But to answer your question yes, you can, or just use water. :)

Technically, yes. However, if the formula is concentrated, it should be diluted prior to mixing it with cereal. Changing the baby's formula often results in changes in their digestive tract and often causes constipation...which leads to irritability and crying. Slow integration and mixing of the two formulas over time may enable a progressive change from one formula to another...as a possible alternative to sudden digestive upset.

Cereal is a horrible first food! Its extremely processed and infants can't digest it anway.
Soft fruits... Like bananas and avocados, are very good first foods! If your baby is sitting up unassisted, eager and reaching for your food, you may want to try with either of those. If shes not showing signs of readiness, then you should really wait until she is.
Any solid food in you babes diet will interfere with the way she absorbs the iron from your milk. If you wait as long as possible, you will ensure she doesn't become anemic.

Why even bother mixing the cereal with formula? Is there a specific reason you have?

Yes you can...and if you want to express milk you can mix in breast milk. My preference for formula is Horizons Organic formula (milk based) or better yet an Organic Soy. You can even mix with water. The choice is yours do what you feel you are most comfortable with. Good luck and happy feeding.

i use elecare or sometimes breast milk. it doesn't matter. JUST MAKE SURE YOU ACTUALLY FEED THE BABY WITH A SPOON. DO NOT PUT THE CEREAL IN THE BOTTLE. THE BABY CAN CHOKE!
