ok - i did this last year.
Anzacs faced several horrifying conditions while positioned in the trenches. Physical effects such as constant bombardment from enemy artillery lead many men to psychological effects after the war. Shell shock was a common psychological condition. Severe cold along with mud caused very serious gangrene often leading to amputation of limbs.
At the height of battle many men were forced to excrete and urinate in their positions. Polluted water led to ailments such as Dysentery and Diarrhoea. Lice and rats were constantly a bother for soldiers based in the trenches. Decomposing bodies were attractants for rodents and because of shortages of supplies, men would usually hunt the rats for food. Lice constantly pestered the men and often led to insanity.

that's all i remember....

For some info-tainment, read Leon Uris's "Redemption" or watch "Galipoli". starring Mel Gibson. Both deal with what the Australian and New Zealanders faced on Galipoli.
