i wont list the branches of philosophy and i wont go into details. but from what i have studied is that there are realy only two things that philosophy consists of.

1) determining whether reality is actualy there (skepticism)

which is basicaly shown that it is self refuting and has many flaws to the theory.

2) assuming that it is, you base opinions of what the true nature of reality is and base opinions and theories on all the different aspects of life and reality.

my friend, you are nowhere close.

determining whether reality is actually there is not skepticism.

the next part of your posting makes no grammatical or logical sense.

assumng that what is? what? you are unclear.

philosophy is very different from opinion, because a basic idea of almost any philosophy is that you can provide reasons or explanations for your beliefs or your position, while the essence of an opinion is "well that's just what I think" or "that's just how I feel".

I couldn't begin to try and come up with a reductive definition of what philosophy is all about; almost every human since the dawn of time has philosophized in some way or another and the vastness of human experience can't be summed up in a couple of short paragraphs. Plus there are many people who have been much smarter and wiser than you or I who have achieved tremendous things with their philosophies and I respect that.

But I do think it generally has to do with thinking, reflecting, acting, reasoning, exploring, teaching, and trying to understand the world we live in. If you do not feel like you are a philosophical kind of person that's fine; this world is made up of many different types of people. But whatever you do or whatever you believe in, you should recognize that it has a philosophical basis.

I think someone could write a book trying to define what exactly Philosophy is. It is far too complex toto sum up in just a few words I think, but since this format only allows for just that, I'll take a stab at it.
Philosophy is; rationally critical thinking, of a more or less systematic kind about the general nature of the world, the justification of belief and the conduct of life. Or to simplify it even further it is thinking about thinking.

that's very nice and analytical but I think mostly people read the mainstay philosophers and interpret or quote the precepts and jists attributed to them . for instance that's very Socratic of you or how platonic . there is a brand of life's meaning or understanding of reality from an inclination or paradigm for most philosophers that is recognizable to each.Like Marxism as applied to govt and society is often marked by terms like dialectic materialism . Or Nietzsche by full throttle ahead for lack of another term often recognized by the statement god is dead.so to have philosophy down I suggest you read the writings of the great philosophers although you definition is good.

Well maybe you do have it R. But you certainly don't have your grammar, and spelling "down pretty much correctly".
Philosophy is a subject that will encompass your life for seven decades. Still you could die, and not have philosophy nailed to the ground. The topic is so damned subjective.
