Before the war in Iraq there was a large movement in Iran for a Democractic form of government, and the hardliners were afraid of losing their power. When the US invaded Iraq, the hardliners were to able put fear in their people that American would do the same to them, their people then supported the hardliners. They are now further ruled by fear as everyone threatens to invade them, so they select the hardliners. Is US policy hurting Irans chance of becoming Democratic?

Simply: No. There have been several Democratic reform movements in Iran since the Shah was ousted. The Iranian government lets people vent then sends them on their way. Iran is not a true Democracy. Iran is an Islamic Theocratic Republic.

Most people don't quite understand. Islam is not just a religion. Islam is a way of life. It is your religion, your values, your beliefs, your government, your social order, your justice system all rolled into one. The Qur'an is an entire social framework.

Iran is a perfect example of that framework. Wikipedia has a good overview of how the Iranian government is structured.

I doubt it. The fact IS, democracy is not a good "fit" in the Middle East- & won't be for a long time. The cultures & values & different religions there, are too restrictive for it to take hold. All the invasion did- was to unify the desparate ideological factions more against US... And as long as we're in Iraq, all the "attention" -will be on getting us OUT.

Of course it is. Pretty hard to change governments when you have one of Bushes Battle Groups off your coast with an aircraft carrier, a nuclear sub with muti-nuke tipped missiles, Frigates and other vessels capable of launching nuclear missiles at Iran!

Iran used to have an elected government until a CIA led terrorist attacks ousted the elected government and replaced it with the Shaw of Iran, who was pro US oil!

It looks like our invasion didn't help the Iraqi's either!
