Ok ..something happen to my sony pc and i CANT get back into windows.it all started..I felt my pc was lagging so i opened task manager and closed everything going down...then a little window poped up saying that my computer was shutting down in about 15 secs i think(i have gotten this before and nothing happen) so finally when it was getting ready to shut down another window read windows is shutting down..saving settings.it looked frozen..i mean how many savings does it have to save?.so i held the power button until the pc shut down ( i guess i forced it to shut down while it was saving).when i turned it back on..HELL started...i got a black screen with the text "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt \system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Please re-install a copy of the above file"...i got my cousin to try and fix it..he somehow got that file fixed..but then when we restarted pc..it said another file is corrupt..and it kept going w/ corrupt files!HELP

Heh,
Easiest way to repair this is to run a widnows repair from the cd.
You could always do a fresh install to. =o

Your cousin could try to repair all those files until there are no more problems , but that would probably take a lot of time .
The only thing that could stop you from doing a fresh install of windoze , is that you have some precios data on your windoze partition .To make windoze work without losing any data ,boot from windows cd , select a new install (not a repair) , and select your old windows partition .DO NOT FORMAT IT EVEN IF THE INSTALLER WARNS YOU .Nothing bad will hapen .This will install windows without losing any data on the windows partition .Of corse , you will lose the registry , wich means that for example ,you will still have the files of all your programs , just that windows won't show them in the add/remove programs list .If errors apear in any of your programs after the windows instals , reinstall those programs .Anything that dosen't have to do with the registry will certanly ework fine from the start .
That's wath I do when windoze gets intolerably slow .PS ,my advice:DON'T BUY VISTA! .

I am assuming that you don’t have a recovery disc? The only thing you can really do at this point, and your probably not going to like this answer, but your probably going to have to take your computer to someone that restores computers for a living.
The problem with trying to restore it on your own is that you really don’t know what you are doing. Using an XP disc is risky at best, mainly because you really don’t know what caused the problem in the first place.
My son has an XP media system and he ran into pretty much the same problem. He and his friends tried to fix the problem, but could never get it to run right. He did finally get it fixed though. How? He took it to the same person that fixed my computer.
Listen, just find a computer specialist that others recommend and let that person fix it for you. It will save you a lot of time and headaches. I promise.
I know this isn’t what you really wanted to hear, but I think it is the best solution. If you get lucky enough to get a computer specialist to spell it out for you over the Internet without charging your credit card, more power to you. But, and this is a very BIG BUT, I would be very careful about who you listen to. How do you know if they really know what they are talking about? You don’t! If you are willing to risk loosing everything you have on your computer, I say go for it. Otherwise, just find someone locally that can do it for you.
Sorry, but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.
I’m also sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

So if it is a new computer, why didn't you go straight to warranty service? The first time (and last time) I had a problem I didn't understand, back in 1997, I took my computer to the shop, and the tech fired it up on the bench, entered a code, brought up a screen I hadn't seen before, highlighted a group of files, deleted, rebooted, and the computer went right into Win 95 like it was supposed to. (Win 95 was the ultimate at that time, by the way). The tech will have a much better chance than us, because he will be able to actually see the system function or malfunction.

maybe you're infected with a virus that's deleting your files one by one until you replace all the files in your system. The best way to fix it is to re-install your windows to replace all the corrupted files then after you reinstalled run a virus scan to clean it up. :)

normally id fix almost any computer related problem, but this im afraid requires windows repair install.
if you boot up with your windows cd you can do a repair install and make it work again but you will need to reinstall all windows updates.

Yeah reinstall windows...when it asks you the first time to install or repair, select install...when it gets to the disk option asking to install new or repair, select repair...It should do it and you won't lose your files or programs, etc.

Run it through the dishwasher to remove all the corrupted files, then try restarting it.
