Depends on how much you want to spend. The list I will put down will all be restuarants you'd enjoy and what you can expect to spend. All are chains for the most part so one should be near you. Also do some research. There are probably some really good individually owned places near you as well that you might want to check out. Anyway here's the list. These are all minus alchohol and don't include tips by the way.

Olive Garden and Outback - 20.00 per person
Red Lobster - 18.00 per person
Chili's, Applebees, TGI Friday, - 15.00 per person
Bonefish Grill (I work here, Its amazing) - 25.00 per person.
Flemmings - 30.00 per person

It goes without saying that the service and food at the ones that are 20.00 or more per person is leaps and bounds better than the others.

I really woudn't say any of those are great american eats. Go up a scale and find a better restaurant. Diners for breakfast, deli for lunch but for dinner, you have to go all out. NOt expensive, but not applebees!!

California's Pizza Kitchen, Cheesecake Factory, PF Chang's; these restaurants have a great variety not just their specialty.

None of the chain restaurants that you mentioned are "good" restaurants in my opinion. Good if in a rush, or not looking for a super meal, but there must be better restaurants in your area that are independently owned are are "classic American."

Where do you live?

Where are you in the country?

All of the chains you mentioned are reasonably good. But, they are all chains (actually, I'm not sure about the elephant bar) I would consider plugging your zip code into one of the search engines and seeing what they came up with.

Or, if you'll post your zip...I'll search for you. :)

if you can't decide where you are going, try to go to a American style beffet, so they can select whatever they want.
