I suffer from chronic migraines and have yet to find something to relieve the pain. I have been on numerous non-prescription, homeopathic and prescription meds from my neurologist, tried accupuncture, hypnosis, relaxation techniques, chiropractic care, injections, changing my diet, hot/cold showers, ice/heat packs, and sleeping. Nothing seems to help. My family suffers from migraines as well. Does anyone know of anything that would help me?

The only thing I have found to help prevent my migraines is the pill, this is mainly because I have found mine to be hormone related. I went from having a migraine every month from the age of 12, to around 1 every 6 months. I even had a period of 4 years where I didn't get any not even 1. I was on the pill the entire time.

As for relieving the pain I am yet to find something aswell, I take Panadol it only eases it a little and thats if I get to it right at the beginning.

I really sympathise with you I have told my husband that I would rather give birth every month than have a migraine... I become anxious even at the thought that I might be getting one...
Good luck

Ok, some migraines don´t come up from what you eat, feelings, stress or other perceptive sense...(eyes,mouth, touch,ears,nose)...what makes u nervous, eat like i said before, cold/hot, hear or smell like sometimes burning rubber.
These are things that make it worse or not worse but not better.... the problem that many people dont know is that it could be the first nerve one the back of your head is sligthtly curved, which is very normal, but the problem come when this same one is pressed down by a musclue sometimes, and tends to be pressed and the efect is its swallowing and making ur head heart. the problem with neurologist is that they dont see the rest of the body and a chiropracter non nerve system. maybe check that out because its geneticaly caused.

I get migraines also. It is HORRIBLE how awful they are. People who don't get them, do not understand--which makes it even more annoying. (sorry-little rant)..
There are two ways to go about it. A lot of people react well to preventative medications (daily drugs you take to prevent migraines and headaches):

Topamax (It is more commonly used as an anti-seizure medication) and blood pressure medications--such as Inderal (propolonol-generic version). I have heard a lot of people have luck with these two, I didn't have much luck but I just realized I was on a very low dose of inderal & might check back with my doc next to go for a visit--to see if I can try a higher dosage. (these medications do NOT help once you are in the midst of an "episode")..

I take these PRESCRIPTION drugs: Imitrex 100mg (for migraine), Phenegran 25mg (for the nausea that ALWAYS comes with it), and if it is just a regular headache--I have FIORINAL (it is a pain medication with Caffiene, Aspirin, Codiene and fiorinal).. Fiorinal is a pain medication.. This has helped a lot. They tried me on Darvocet, Vicodine and some other meds that didn't work. Fiorninal also comes with TYLENOL--that didn't work for me, I use the one that is mixed with ASPIRIN.

My friend doesnt like Imitrex, she uses RELPAX and loves it. Also, my doctor gave me a sample of a new drug that is out--avert, i think...it worked well but I already have success with Imitrex, so why change it?

Let me warn you...when I first got on imitrex, they put me on 50mg's and it did NOT work... So alot of people say it doesn't work for them and it makes me wonder what mg they were on.. make sure to tell your doctor to give you 100 mgs tablets.

Good luck, I feel you--just know you are NOT alone in this...

Try the Anat Baniel Method. If you are in an area where you can work with a private practitioner, that will be best. If the method is helpful, you should feel immediate improvement. The results are usually remarkable - far exceeding expectations. You can check the directory for a local practitioner, try Anat's DVD and CD programs, or try the online version at desk-trainer.com. Working with a practitioner privately will give you the best results.

We are in the same boat :( I have been suffering them since I was 16, and I am the third generation in my family with them (that we know of). When I feel it is going to hit, I take a couple of Excedrin Migraine and hope for the best. I try to get my hours of sleep and I avoid red wine and chocolate as much as I can. I also try to avoid loud music and noises.

All what I can do is try to prevent them as much as possible, avoiding things that triggers them, but when it hits, it hits :( When I have to take a 12 hours flight, it is guaranteed I will have one. I try to drink water, avoid coffee and tea and sleep if I can.

Cheers,

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck.
Headaches can be caused by minor problems
like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons
like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can
have harmful side effects, so it is better to
modify your lifestyle. More information available at

Well, could be allergy related, but you said you'd changed your diet. I suffered, too, and what finally stopped them was having kids. I don't know how or why, but THANK GOD because they are the worst.
Try an allergist.
Good Luck, I hope you can find something that works.

I find that Imitrix and sitting in a slightly warm bath help me. Granted that the lights have to be off and sound nonexistant.
