Hi I was wondering about traveling to Maine. It has always fascinated me and I wondered if it is worth it to travel for leisure and vacation and what season would be the best. I'm guessing summer would be with all beutiful flowers and plants out. I live on the west side of the States so I really want to know if it's worth it or not. I would only like answers from people that have actually traveled to Maine, I don't want any answers or info posted from sites thanks. Is it also a friendly state with tourism or does it not get much? Obviously we would be traveling to the coast. Thanks!

Maine is beautiful, especially in the summer (and since it's so far north, it's not very hot, either). Fall is pretty, too, with the foliage. I'd avoid going there in the spring - I'm not sure about Maine particularly, but I know in the northern New England in general spring is "mud season" where the melting snow creates lots of mud! And right after mud season is may fly season (again, I'm not sure if it's so much of a problem in Maine).

My husband and I have been going to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park the last couple of summers. The park is beautiful, lots of hiking trails and bicycle trails, and great scenic drives. If you go there, you have to see the sunrise from the top of Cadillac Mountain. I'm not as familiar with the rest of Maine, but tourism is big business there, so they are fairly friendly.
