I am wanting to have an account already to go when I make the move so I can just buy a hoe instead of renting. If I have to be "introduced to one in UK I will have to wait to purchase a home & move yet again. Trying to just move from A to B without their being a C. Thanks.

HSBC is honk kong and Shanghi Banking Corperation which took over a major British bank. It is very international and big these days.
Barclays I think have banks in US also. But having branches in both countries may not make any difference anyway. I have a bank account abroad and can transfer money between banks on the phone from any country in the world.

Barclays Bank - but you generally have to live in a major, major metro city (like NY. SF, LA) if you want to banking at both in person. Many US banks have overseas branches - make sure it's the same subsidiary. I presume you want ease of deposits and withdrawals?
