The way they are playing, its 50\50 to get out of the first round vs the Suns or San Antonio! I don't think they, or any other team will pass the Maves this year. Lakers should try hard, and hope for a better season next year. Thats not to say that they can't do it, with #24 on your team, anything can happen. But the rest of the guys need to play D and hit shots. Even if Kobe scores 81 a game in the playoffs, we would need D and bench points to beat the Maves, Suns and Spurs.

Lakers fan right here, but I'm very skeptical on their chances of winning in the playoffs this year. I'm a die-hard Lakers fan, but I just don't see them winning any rounds this postseason. Take a look at the standing right now:
1. x-Dallas --
2. y-Phoenix 6.0
3. x-San Antonio 9.0
4. x-Utah 13.0
5. x-Houston 14.5
6. LA Lakers 21.5
7. Denver 23.5
8. LA Clippers 25.0
From the looks of these standings, the Lakers will be facing the Spurs. I just don't see them winning a series with the Spurs, I mean they're the Spurs. They're one of the top 3 defensive teams in the league and have a bunch of veterans that know how to step it up in the playoffs. Kobe can do only so much, his teammates would really need to step up if they want a chance of winning. But hey, anythings possible for the Lakers when they got Kobe Bryant!

As much as I love the Lakers and Kobe I don't think that they'll pass the first round and this is why:
San Antonio is much better offensively, defensively and experience team, and every year they known how to win playoff games. A prove of that is 3 championships. They've one of the best players in the league on Tim Duncan which is surrounded by a very good nucleos of players like Tony Parker, Ginobilli, Finley and the best perimeter defender in the league in Bruce Bowen. I think he's the player that better defense Kobe. He can't stop him and actually nobody can, but he can make him work harder for his shots and make them a lot more difficult which would lead to other players to step up, and I don't known if they'd be able to do it in a seven games series against San Antonio when they haven't been able to do it for most part of the season. I predict this series to go 7 games San Antonio beaten the Lakes 4-3.
Against Phoenix it would be a much more interesting matchup cuz' of what happened in last year playoff, but again I think Phoenix would win again. They're a better team than last year with the addition of Amare Stoudamire and the improvement of Leandro Barbosa a possible 6th man of the season. In order for L.A. to beat Phoenix they'd have to stop Phoenix up-tempo style and make them play half court, otherwise they don't have any chances. Lamar Odom and Kwame Brown are gonna be very busy trying to stop Marion and Stoudamire while Kobe is gonna be guard by a good defender as Raja Bell, therefore the Lakers would have to step up as a team is they wanna win this and any series. I predict this series to go again 7 games Phoenix winning 4-3.

They match up well with the suns if the lakers drop to the 7th seed as they should have beaten them last year and PHil can just out coach D'antoni.
as things stand now matching up with SA it could go either way. The spurs have a history of solid play but have declined so they are clinging on to the past and the lakers have won the season match up between the teams.
I'd put the chances at 45% for the first round and if they get by that and play the suns in the next round I'd put the odds at 80%

Well, right now they would be up against San Antonio. That would be very very difficult. As good as Kobe is, San Antonio is at a whole other level. San Antonio's defense has been the best defense in the NBA post-all star break. Plus, Bruce Bowen is going to be in Kobe's face the entire series. Will his teammates be able to step up? I don't think Smush Parker and Andrew Bynum will be able to do anything against the Spurs since they are too untalented (in Smush's case) and they are too experienced (in Bynum's case) plus, Bynum's going to go against Tim Duncan in the paint. Difficult task. The Spurs are just so good, they could win the championship just as easily as Dallas. So it does not look good for the Lakers. I would say they lose in 5 or 6 games

The lakers can't beat the suns, mavericks, spurs in a 7 game series. If im correct, the lakers are a 6th seed right now. They would play the spurs in the first round. That wouldn't be pretty.

Looks like they will get San Antonio in the 1st rd and the Lakers don't match up well. It would take a monster effort from Kobe and an even bigger letdown from the Spurs, outside of Bryant and Odom the Lakers are just to young to pose any real threat. Jason Kidd would have helped.

They'll be lucky to make it out of the first round. The Spurs and Mavs are far superior to them, especially the Mavs, who are superior to every team.
The bottom line is, they'll eventually play the Mavs and lose, along with the Eastern Conference Champs.

hopefully the lakers will drop to 7th and play the suns. Kobe could possibly average 60+ ppg in that series.
