First of all...I am not going to sugar coat this...a felony is a
f@(^*d thing to have in your background and it will haunt you for a long time, unfortunetly...due to society's belief once a criminal always a criminal. They forget that prison is supposed to be a "Correctional" Facility. Anyway don't get me started on that, back to you.

First & foremost DON'T GIVE UP!
You are on the right track going back to school. Forget that about being too old, it's cool to go back to college. Don't tell anybody about your Felony...it's nobody's business. There is a website at the end of this message...check it out, cause it is possible to have your criminal record sealed inc. your felony...you have to petition for it and this site has step by step instructions on how to do that, for less than a $100.

Next check out some of these other websites, they are focus on recidivism.
Some are especially for Parolees that are determined to re-enter society successfully. It's a sad truth but the only help and support you are gonna get are from other successful parolees and ex-felons.

Now as far as Federal Financial Aid for college. If you are an ex-felon, and your criminal conviction is less than a year old you will not be eligible for any Federal Grants or loans. Your conviction must be over a year old.

As far as getting a "good job" your best bet is to major in business and start your own business or partner up with others. So you don't have to work for someone else.

These websites explain alot...Please Don't give up stay positive and don't ever let anyone treat you poorly because of your past mistakes, because I'll bet you 100 to 1 the only difference between you and them is that they just never got caught. *_^

http://www.hirenetwork.org/nationalpolicy.html

Check these out and then rearch the links on their sites.
It should help you!

About the site that could help you seal your record, depending on what state you are from go to your States Office of the Attorney General.
It will be on their site map.
Good Luck

Can't offer too much insight with the felony, but its not an automatic rejection. College applications ask about felonies and other convictions and about the details, but doesn't always mean you will be turned down.

Don't feel bad about starting college late. I went to a well-known college fresh out of high school, and though I was smart, I was not mentally prepared. I'm also 24 and I'm now just finishing up two years at a community college and plan to finish my BS within the next two years. 30 is the new 20 these days and people MUCH older than you and I are starting college and getting second degrees.

Although I would suggest something practical like a business related field, healthcare, or education, you should choose something you will enjoy. Its hard to go to school for something you have little interest in. And if you keep wishing you had followed your heart, it might cause you to lose motivation.

Those years of school are worth it, when you think about the long run. That's what keeps me motivated. That, and knowing that I want the absolute best I can give to my son.

Good luck on whatever decision you make!

You r NEVER too old to go to college, My god, I know people
who r 50 and go back to school to get their degree. Don`t let age stop u, I promise u won`t be the oldest one there. I don`t know anything about ur felony problem, but if a prospective employer sees that ur attempting to turn ur life around by getting an education and making something of urself, he`s very apt to hire u, it shows initiative. U stand a better chance of landing a good job with a degree in hand than without. So go for it . I wish u all the luck.

Some felony's will be cleared from someones background after so many years. I had a felony that got reduced to a misdemeanor after my probation period. It may be something you want to check into. I am also 24 and will begin my second year of college in June. I decided to do on-line courses through University of Phoenix and although long-distance learning is more or less like self teaching it is easily learned. I would definitely look into a college that seems interesting to you and maybe one of their counselors will help you find a good field that is available to you. Good Luck!!

25 is the average age to start college in the USA, so the age is not a problem (you're actually a youngster).

I had friends at University who had felonies. One of them went into Chinese medicine (he had attacked a police officer). Another got a good government job (he peed on important property and had other indecent exposure things).

You can turn your life around, just don't expect a job in a bank or the financial sector. Banks and schools tend to be strictest about that kind of thing.

But I see a job in IT, maybe in journalism, sales, real estate or science...

Man im sorry :( i really feel for you. Ive got alot of friends like you. me myself im 24 turning 25 in july and i started school in september of 2002. its now March 2007 and im just getting my AA degree in June ive been in school for 5 years and only accomplished 2 years worth of schooling. i turn 25 when i get my AA. yeah its kind of depressing i could have went to school right after highschool but i f'd around too and almost caught felonies and ruined my life. i got lucky but my friends didnt ive got three old aquantanices that all have felonies and they all dropped out of highschool and one of them is in jail serving a 3year sentence the other has 2 kids and is a junkie and the other got married with a felony on his record... there is hope for one of them.. whichever one is positive about his mistakes and learns to accept them and move on. the other two will fail. i used to think i was a loser and that i dont deserve to go to school but god gave me this chance for a reason not so i can blow it and get all depressed about it and sulk but so that i can shine and be a good strong man that i was supposed to be. yeah 24 sucks, yeah a felony sucks, but school is good. and a bachelors degree is really good felony or not. **** i feel real bad saying this cus i used to think i was in some **** before but God only looks at what you did right not what you did wrong man so keep your head up. a felony cant stop YOU from doing what YOU want to do.
