I have seen many ambulances where on its rear the word
"AMBULANCE" is written as if reflected to left/right or as if it's written upside down. is there any history attached to it or some sort of technicality.
thanks

the main reason behind this is the property of rear-view mirror which shows the appearance of left into right and right into left (shortly known as 'lateral inversion') this in turn helps the driver in the front to appear the word 'ambulance' correctly in his rear view mirror and give the ambulance side.

So that car driver can read the "Ambulance" in the rear view mirror. If you are an ambulance driver you want the car drivers in front of you to get out of your way as quickly as possible. The ambulance flashes the siren, the auto driver looks in the rear view, and pulls off to the side of the road.

Because the person driving ahead of the ambulance can read out the words from the mirror, ambulance is written in that way.

When the ambulance is racing from behind you, trying to overtake your car so as to get the patient quickly to a hospital, you will see the words "AMBULANCE" correctly in your rear view mirror, ---and give way!

When a reflection of any word written backwards is seen in a mirror, it appears as the original word.

The word 'AMBULANCE' is written backwards so that in an emergency, a motorist can see the word 'AMBULANCE' on his rearview mirror and make way.

everyone knows the answer why the word ambulance is usually written reciprocally. why? this is to ensure that the ambulance will able to pass through the tough road, especially having traffic. as what other said, the driver can able to read very well and be aware to drive his car to side way and let the ambulance turn for its way in free driving.

It is usually written backward on the front so that you can read it in your rear view mirror. Not sure about the back or the upside down.

So that you can see and read it easily in your rear view mirror. This is done because you are expected to give preferance to an ambulance and move aside to let it overtake you . Somebody's life may depend on it.
