If there is already a hole, all you need is a screw driver, it's easy. No worries, you might want to have someone handy to hold the knob in the other side so you can get the screws in.

It depends on what you mean. You are talking about replacing a door knob not an entire lock, right?
There are two types: the old type screws onto the shaft and is held by the screw on the side. Loosen the screw and spin off the knob.
The other type is the kind used on cheap modern hollow doors and uses two screws into the wood.
You can handle anything that door knob technology can throw your way. If not, retreat to your bed and remain there until further notice.

My former husband replaced an old fashioned glass doorknob in the kitchen, it took him 4 hours. I was appalled as I thought he should have paid a handiman one hour or less to do it. After that he always closed the door by avoiding the knob, leaving newspaper ink finger prints constantly. That does not mean it is difficult to install, it just means that it was very difficult for my husband the neurologist! That is not why he is no longer my husband, he just happened to be leaving fingerprints in the wrong house at the same time as mine!!!

Directions should come with the door knob and basically all you need is a screwdriver if you are just replacing a door knob.

If you are talking about front entrance door knob with in built lock, etc. then you need professional help. If it is just plain door knob, you will need a power drill, drill bit, door knob, fastener, screw driver, etc.

Usually the package comes with some instuctions but normally all you need is a screw driver. It is fairly straight forward.

If all you are doing is replacing one, then all you'll need is either a flat or phillips screwdriver...
