how can you describe the PERSONALITY of herb clutter?

i am writing an essay and i said he is
religious
family oriented

Not very much, really. Herb was a well-liked farmer, with an ideal American family. Capote (who knew the family only after they were dead) focused his attention on the killers, Perry Smith and Dick Hickock, whom he grew to know during the long months of imprisonment that preceded their hangings.

Perhaps the most interesting comment about Herb Clutter was made by Perry Smith, something on the order of: "I thought he was a very nice gentleman. I thought so right up to the moment I cut his throat".
