to act like he's not guilty and maybe join in when everyone condemns her so the others won't know that he is just as guilty.as the woman. A hypoicrite is a person who condemns a sin that they are guilty of committing.
This is in the Scarlet Letter??

Sin is doing something that is deemed wrong by religion, such as adultery. Hypocrisy is where you say one thing and do another. An example would be publically condemning adultery, whilst committing it in secret.

The man has already sinned by committing adultery. Her silence doesn't change the fact of that sin but it does allow him to preserve his good name. He would be tempted to continue speaking against adultery and sin, despite being an adulterer and sinner himself. Thus he would be adding hypocrisy to sin.

I would assume that it means that he condemned her for doing whatever sin that she did, and then he went out and did the same thing. So say she committed adultery, not only would he be mad at her, he would go out and do it. Thus being a hypocrite
