I'm 20. I have no close gay friends. I want to meet other girls like me. SHould I go to a gay bar by myself? Is this safe/good idea??
I think I would feel out of place in a bar all by myself. How did you get into the scene when you came out??

Join Outright Libertarians. there should be a chapter in a large city near you. Do a google search for it.

A bar is probably not the best scene for meeting anyone that you would want to become friends with. They might not be the same person when sober that they are while intoxicated.
If there is a college near you, you could check to see whether they have a LGBT group that meets. They might allow you to attend some meetings even if you're not a student, or you could contact the leaders of the group to see if you could hang out with them. They would be around your age, and at least you know they are getting an education rather just focused on getting drunk and hooking up.

This is what happened to me and I have a lot to say about it.
Bars arent the BEST choice right off the bat, because depending how attractive you are, you won't be approached because everyone will be intimidated by you.
Its best to meet women online as friends on the various personal sites.. like love happens, match.com, yahoo, myspace..

THEN when you MEET the girls, you can go to bars in couple or triples.. its much easier coming out these days.. believe me it was much more difficult in the 80's..
The bar known as girl bar in west hollywood didnt come out till later.. although the other bar the Palms was always open. Those are the two main bars in west hollywood for women.. that are strictly for women, they also have lot of bars for women open for a while. They have dinah shore weekend in palm springs every year in march where THOUSANDS of women get together and go for fun..you might want to check it out if you can.

www.girlbar.com it will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about when and where girlbar has their club happenings and the dinah shore weekend which you still have time to go to even alone if you wanted.. or with another female friend. Its on April 1st this year!
Make sure to go to the west hollywood gay pride parade!! Its the second weekend in June every year and you can hang out at girlbar or the Palms. The parade and festivities go RIGHT BY the palms.

A bar isn't really the best way to meet people.
Try a dating site - you CAN find friends on dating sites.
Join a sports club - something like action soccer. Something fun. Anything that will increase your social circle.

I think it's okay for for you to go a gay bar alone if you don't want anyone to know your business. And that way you will meet more people like us.
