Once when I was hitch hiking on a 2 lane road, I had just walked past a crew with a telephone truck working when a pickup truck came by. I was holding out my thumb and a fellow in a pickup truck stopped. I ran over and got in. In a few minutes the fellow told me that he had stopped because seeing me with my thumb out, he thought I was holding a telephone wire from across the road.

Yeah that happened to me in the past but not in a long long time, thank God lol!

How embarrassing, right?

How did I recover?

Very carefully, I suspect.

I probably just walked away or backed off real nice & slow or something lol!

Yes, and rather than feel embarrassed, I just kept waving, and pretended I was looking past that person.

Yes and no it isn't a big deal. Just smile like you really know them. Up here you don't want to look at the cars too much, they flip you off if you are not like them. If it happens just ignore them completely they are the drunks and crackheads.

yeah... it may be embarrassing but i'm not going to let myself suffer from thinking that i'm stupid or something...just let it go. it's just a small mistake and it's normal to feel embarrassed and it happens to a lot of people. who cares about what people think anyweyz?(specially if you know that those people are not concern about you)
