I wouldn't worry about it as long as you are eating healthy and doing some kind of exercise. I gained 50 pounds during both of my pregnancies and had no problems losing the weight afterwards.

Hi there dear. I don't really have a good answer for your question but I can certainly relate.
When I was pregnant with my first I gained over 50 pounds. Even so within one year I was back at my original weight. I attribute that to breastfeeding almost the entire time which I believe is natures way of helping you to lose the weight that you gain with the baby. I never tried to diet. You will burn around 1000 calories each day that your baby is totally breastfed. By that I mean not getting any solid food. If you are breastfeeding you do not need to add solid food until your baby is around 6-7 months old.
Personally I would not worry about how much weight you gain. I have seen awful complications from low-birth weight babies but I have never seen ONE problem from a baby being too plump ( aside from abnormal weight when the mother had diabetes). So, unless you have gestational diabetes ( which you don't say you do) I would concentrate on bringing a beautiful healthy baby into the world and not even think about a silly number on a scale! You have the rest of your life to worry about losing weight and only this short period of time to nourish this precious baby and give it all the nutrition that it needs! You will look back on this nine months and it will seem like such a short period of time when you look at your childs whole life. This is your chance to give him a good start on life. Be sure that you breastfeed him, at least to give him that incredible (almost magical!) colostrum that is SO full of immunities and protein and awesome things! So even if you do not intend to breastfeed let your sweet baby have that colosturm that your breasts will make in the final month or so of your pregnancy.

I don't know who made up the weight gain rule....but i wouldn't really use that as a guideline. As long as you and your baby are healthy, i think it's okay to gain more than the expected desired amount of weight. I gained 68 lbs. with my pregnancy. It was my first child, and she was a very healthy 7 lbs. 12 oz. at birth. Just like you, i was gaining 2 or 3 lbs a week toward the end. My daughter is seven months old as of a few days ago, and I have lost all but 5 lbs of the baby weight that i gained. think of it this way, it took you 10 months to put the weight on, so allow yourself the same amount of time to lose it. Alot of people recommend breast feeding to lose the weight. I actually haven't exercised one bit.......just taking care of the baby has kept me active enough to drop pounds. good luck!!!!

When I gained almost 35 pounds with my daughter and began questioning the doctor she told me that I was fine. That all of my tests were well within the normal range, my blood pressure stayed steady never up never down within normal. My blood work was great in fact she made the comment that I was the healthiest she had ever seen me and I have to admit she was right. Outside of the month long morning sickness for the 3rd/4th month I felt great. I slept wonderfully, always woke refreshed, had energy to spare and was in a consistent good mood...except for when my daughter's father would crank up the volume on the television LOL. But I was concerend about the 35 pounds...She said not to worry so I didn't...And lost the 35 pounds plus when she became a toddler chasing after her.

Everyone's different and gains different amounts of weight at different stages, and even during different pregnancies. If you're worried about the weight gain and losing it afterward, take my advice and BREASTFEED! Those little babies are like tapeworms sucking the fat off you, it's great!
