...And is it the government's place to step in and ban it? I mean, isn't it an attempt toward prolonging our existance here as a species?

I don't see any problems with it.

If people would actually educate themselves about exactly how it works, noone would be against it.

It would solve many many healthcare problems.

Good question.

Government should not fund, nor ban Stem Cell Research. Just because somebody is a scientist or an artist or whatever doesn't entitle them to living at other peoples' expense any more than a welfare queen or a war profiteer.

If scientists determine that Stem Cell Research is a good research idea, they'll research it. If politicians decide to explore Stem Cell Research and its not a good idea, they'll be wasting other peoples' money (something they don't seem to have too much of a problem doing).

All that the governmnet has done is to ban federal funding for stem cell research. That is because a large portion of the population is against the use of fetal stem cells because they come from aborted fetuses. Stem cell research is still being done and is allowed with private money.

I thin stem cell research is a great thing

I think cloning organs is also a good thing- as long as the patient getting the organ knows its experimental and may not last long

I think cloning a whole person is a bad idea- especially at this point in time where we lack knowledge on what might happen.

I think many people hear words like stem cell research and or cloning (or connect the two) and don't realize they are broad terms. stem cells can come from embroyos, fetuses, ambilical cords, ect
and as I said cloning cells can mean making new organs, not something like dolly the sheep

Sane people do not sacrifice one life for another which is what cell reasearch does. Anyway, Adult stem cells work just as well withhout killing anyone. Isn't going to the Doctor an attempt to prolong your life.
Don't refer to me as a species.....I am a Child of God created in His image.... a little lower than the angels and higher than the rest of creation. So are you.

God gave us a brain to improve the lives of his people so we should use it to benefit others like stem cell research and if we don't we will be going against what we were created for and may disappoint him it is not against Gods laws to use what he gave us.

the govt has not in any way attemted to ban stem cell research. they have refused to supply the funds for embryonic research for mutliple reasons. however it is still very legal for a private entity to invest however the fact that zero benefits have come from embryonic and hundreds of benefits have come from adult stem cells. no private organization will bother investing in a bad business decision.
