Im getting payed just a touch above min wage and my boss is so mean. He tells me Im stupid and treats me like Im crap on his shoe. I try my best,Im always on time and I have never called in. I have to hang in there for about another 6 weeks but Im just not sure I can handle it. I work full time and also go to school 2 nights a week and work twice a week at a childrens hospital. Im a Mother of 5 and want to show my kids not to quit when things get bad. Any advice on how to cope would be wonderful. Please if you have anything mean to say just move on. Thanks !!!

Wow, you have got your hands full and then some. Those five kids are going to be sending you one heckova "thank you" for those genetics some day - school, part-time work, full time work, and five kids? I'm tired just reading it!

You are miles ahead of 90% of people in this world just by the attitude you demonstrate. How many moms of large families don't even consider working one job, let alone two? (In fact, how many are collecting public assistance?) How many people juggle school and two jobs? How many people, when faced with an awful boss, would ask, "how do I cope?" instead of "how do I hide this idiot's body?"

The irony of this is that after you leave he will tell the next person in your job what a great employee you were and hold you up as a paragon of virtue. Some people are just never satisfied and he may be one of them.

Keep reminding yourself that his nastiness isn't about you - it's about him. Whether he calls you names because he's insecure, or because he has a huge ego, he only makes himself look bad. When you become the boss of your day care empire, you will have received the gift of knowing what kind of boss you do NOT want to be.

And if you can go through labor (or an adoption process, even longer) five times, you can live through anything for six weeks. Maybe when it gets really bad you could imagine your boss 9 1/2 months pregnant! :)

Best of luck - not that I think you'll need it.

I have found that when my boss starts to treat me like crud, I start to remember how grateful I am for the job. I DON"T like my boss either- And about 3 times a week I have to talk myself into going to work. As bad as this may soiund, focus on the money, not the person you work for or the people you work with, and it will be easier. Sometimes I have to do it minute by minute, hour by hour. But that is how I get through.
The fact of the matter is we all have bills to pay- I have too many!- and with 5 children, if you didn't need the money, I would tell you to find something else until you get your licensing all complete. You can do it for the next 6 weeks.. Just remind yourself : "I am here for a check, and thank you for this opportunity!"

1st of all I'm in the UK so if you are in the US some of what I'm saying may not apply, that said I have the following thoughts.

When you say your boss is a jerk, does his behaviour constitute bullying or sexual harassment in any way? If it does (and it sounds like it does) then you should raise a complaint (follow your companies grievance procedure) and if your company does not resolve the problem take it to tribunal.

If your boss makes you feel uncomfortable at work and you feel you need to leave because of him then you also need to raise a complaint - if a company (i.e. your boss) make the situation at work so uncomfortable that you feel you cannot stay this could be 'constructive dismissal' which is a serious matter.

Please seek advice from your local citizen’s advice centre (or equivalent) and remember it is your right protected by law to go to work and do your job without harassment, bullying or any sexual / sexist / racist or prejudice remarks of any kind and it is your companies legal obligation to make sure this right is granted.

Other than that if you are internet inclined in any way see my answer here about how to start a net business.

Just ask him if there is something wrong and explain what he does to you. Your not a doormat for his hangups so don't let anyone treat you like that. If you show up everyday, do your job, have no write ups for performance or have not been told about errors you made I'd get in his face. It's only when you show these losers you won't take any lip off of them is when they back down. What's he going to do , fire you for asking a question about the way he treats you? Either way you win and can keep some esteem too. Let us know.

whenever i feel like that. i just act like how i want to. what is he going to do fire me? your lucky you will get out eventually. it normally takes them a few months to do the firing process anyway. i knew a guy that came to work and went home immediately after he clocked in and came back to clock out. it took them about 4 months to fire him. you can get away with this if its a big corporation. other than that, i'd look for another job. you can get any old job making a tad above min. wage. its one thing not to quit but its another to have to sit there and let someone put you down. you can find a decent paying job that has a few weeks of paid training and just sit there and do nothing because you'll be done your school by the time training is done and you'll actually have to work. you can try to hang in there and suck up to it but if your not happy whats the point? would you want your kids to do the same and be miserable?

I hate my boss, too. Umm, I would maybe try confronting him about it? That's always a good start. If he's still too mean then I would just try not to let it get to you. Just like focus on showing your kids not to quit, and focus on the good things at work (there's gotta be something you like doing there) and try to ignore your boss. Just like throw yourself into the work itself and I'm sure you're boss can't stay entirely mean forever if you are doing a good job.

You don't deserve to be treated that way. Sign up with a temporary job company. You tell them your skills they find you interviews. Don't quit your job until you find a new one. Your boss is an a** hole.Keep in mind while you are working that it is just temporary. When it is time to quit let him have it! Good luck

you didn't say what kind of job it is...but your boss has to have a boss too...go over his head and talk to whomever is above him and tell that person that your boss treats your horribly. and if there is anyone else that you work with that will back you up that would help too....good luck!
