She has the American accent for the role. Have you never heard of this before? Instead of scramming to find actual people with real accents to play certain roles, they get vocal coaches to teach the actor(that they want for the role) how to talk with the accent.

Same reason actors such as Russell Crowe, Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts have American accents in their roles as americans - role acting.

On the other hand, you will find actors do british accents who are american - last one from memory was Renee Zellweger doing a british accent for the movie Miss Potter.

There is an entire industry based around training actors in speaking with various accents or quirks.

Now even these guys have their limits - Try seeing the movie "The Hunt for Red October". While an excellent movie - you do have to go easy on the Scottish - Russian accent from Sean Connery as the Russian Captain.

it's called acting...producers these days hire speech trainers, or whatever else they call themselves, to teach the actors how to speak with certain accents. i mean, listen to orlando bloom in " the calcium kid" and then listen to him in troy.
