It seems to me that an african-American is a black person that has never been to africa that was born and raised in America that believes they should point out the african ancestry as if no-one could tell by looking at them. It's possible they're claiming allegiance to africa and to that I say go to africa. Considering the elephant isn't black and is truly from africa I don't think the elephant would be african-American due to how that term is used.
I am American with ansestors from another country but still am American. I think real Americans agree you're American or not.

the name of that type of elephant is "African elephant". It could have been "smithfield elephant" or "Green-nosed elephant", whatever.

no, not unless it becomes an american citizen. people tend to forget that people who visit America from Africa are simply "Africans." Why would they be african-americans if they weren't citizens.
