i know that it isn't broken or cracked, have already had an x-ray. it's been 3 weeks now

Unfortunately, it can hurt for 4-6 weeks. Also know that many "broken ribs" won't show well on X-ray. Its no fun, I feel ya.

My husband bruised a rib when he hit a tree skiing off the trail at 40 mph and it it hurt for a year. It still acts up occasionally if he lifts something heavy or stretches to reach too far.

I had a brused rib from falling out of a tree and it hurt for three mounths. It varies from person to person
