I would like to replace my old wooden fence with prefab-ed panels and metal posts. Has anyone done this and can I use chain link posts or are there special posts for this? Also what brackets would I need to attach the post to the panel?

The reason I do not want to use wood posts is that the ones we have now are rotted. With every wind storm we lose a section of fence. I have noticed that other people in my area have used metal posts. Also my nieghbor is not willing to pay half unless we put up a chain link fence. So I hope he will consider this a good compromise.

Just check with the garden or home centers where you shop for the fence panels. Ask them what type of posts can be used. You shouldn't have any problem using metal posts, there will be a good way to attach whatever fence you decide on. Treated wood posts should last for 15 yrs, not sure how old your existing fence is or if treated wood was used....

If you can avoid removing the existing wooden uprights you will save yourself much trouble. Most of the work in installing a fence goes into setting these uprights in concrete. The metal posts are harder to use because they are round. The second link below will show you the sort of bracket you would need for this. The first link shows a lot of fence styles.

I recommend you try to reuse the upright post you have in place. It will be easier to attach whatever new panels you wish to use to a flat surface.

I assume you mean corrugated zinc sheets,

they are usually mounted on wood not metal posts, you can use metal posts by using self taping screws. The wood frames are a lot more flexible to work with.
