I entered this site because I was told I can get a free lap top by aswering questions, is this true?

No, it is not true.
You just get points and a good feeling for helping people out, if you are talking about Yahoo Answers.

Some are. For the most part, you have to do a few surveys (around 1-10, some need a credit card), and a real street address.
for say a laptop is $2000. The website that hosts the "free laptop" get paid around $50-200 per refferal (ie, the surveys you did). these companies actually make money by giving away products, as they make more money by sponsoring than by giving.
