Because all people want to feel Heard and/or Acknowledged. Real communication only exists when what is being said or unsaid is communicated back to the other that they have truly been heard or acknowledged and that the communicater gets that. A great way to be sure you understand another, continue to ask "this is what I'm hearing is that what you meant?" Continue to ask this until you REALLY do get what is being communicated. It may take 2 or 3 times it may take 100, but I guarantee the result will be real communication.
