St. Christopher was not de-canonized or declared not to be a saint. This is a myth. The catholic church does consider him to be a saint. In 1969, they did downgrade his status a bit when they changed his celebration from a feast to a commemoration. This was done because of the lack of written evidence of his saintly deeds.

I really dont know why. I think they did the same to St. Philomena and she is a very powerful saint. Probably the post Vatican ll changes in the church. Some priests have been fighting these changes including that of changes in the liturgy from the beautiful Latin Mass to the present Protestantized version.

Notyou is right - The powers that be in the Catholic Church determined that there was no real proof that he ever actually existed, so deleted him from their list of saints in 1968

Sainthood is not GRANTED by people. All CHRISTIANS are saints. Who believe in God. Read bible everywhere BRETHREN are called SAINTS by Paul.
