Well let's figure out where you cannot or shouldn't
Don't keep a tank near a window where sunlight is prominant
Don't keep a tank near a heat or air conditioning source
Don't keep a tank where it will be bumped or knocked
Keep a tank where you can see your fish and what they do.
Also near an electrical outlet to avoid lots of cords and power boxes where they can be tripped on or accidently unplugged.
Near any watersource is a mute point, since buckets were invented, it makes cleaning a tank easier.
Hope this helps.

Anywhere. ;) I have 4 in my living room, 2 in my sunroom, 4 in my kitchen and we're getting another 55G for the living room. :P Fish tanks can also be good for bedrooms though most our bedrooms in the house are taken by other animals. Lol. As long as you have enough space for a table and the tank/equipment and enough plug in's (We use tons of cords obviousally lol!) you can place a tank pretty much anywhere. ^^
My only problem with placing tanks infront of windows is at night/during the winter it can get chilly and cool the tank even with a heater and it can cause a lot of stress on some fish if the sun is too bright where the tanks located. I personally place mine against walls.

Depends on what the size is of the tank. A Small tank in the shape of a pot can be kept anywhere in a small place. But a big tank will require some place. It can be kept in a balcony. But wherever you keep, try keeping it accessible. Watching Fish is said to be very good for health.

You can keep fish tanks in any room. The living room would be great;it'll be the center of attention when friends come over. You can put one in the bedroom;the sounds of the filters and pumps is soothing for sleeping, the water will add humidity to a dry bedroom and you can add a timer to switch the light on and off in the morning and night. There are so many possibilities. It depends on where you want it (them).Good idea to have it near a source of water or have plumbing put in.
You can put it in the center of the room,in the hallway, foyer dining room, family room. Do not place close to a radiator or window. The extremes of temperature will cause problems. Do not place near a sunny area or very bright source of light. Also, make sure a good electric outlet is nearby and also where little children or animals are is not a good location.
Another thing to consider is the weight of the tank. put it on top of a very strong ,sturdy stand or heavy piece of furniture (and protect from water spills.). The floor must be strong to hold up the weight.

You should put it in a room that you're in frequently, so you can enjoy it, and so that your fish will have something to look at too. Don't put it right under the thermostat for your heater/ac...the moisture from it kills the thermostat (I had to have two replaced before I figured that out). Don't put it near a window, because you'll want to control the amount of light it gets to prevent brown algae, and that can be difficult with the outdoor light hitting it. I like to keep mine not too far from the sink, so that I don't have that far to go when I'm changing water. An area with tile floors is good for an aquarium...but if you're going to keep it on the carpet, just get a rubber mat to put down when you're cleaning it and changing water.

Definitely out of direct sunlight, and it's best to keep it away from an exterior wall or door due to outside temperature changes that could affect the water temp. The last are not too important for goldfish.

Pretty much anywhere you'd like as long as you avoid extremes in temperature, direct sunlight (algae problems here), and your floor can hold the weight.
Convenient access to a water supply and electrial outlets is something to consider. Some folks have them built into their walls as room dividers or a part of the interior wall of their house.

keep it at some place where you can show it to others as well as at some place where there is proper sunshine and ventilation. according to feng shui it should be kept near the door if it has a golden fish and in the living room if it has some dark fishes and if it is in combination of both then you can keep it near the entrance and/or in living ,its upto the choice of the individual!

Many people ask this question and the answer is you yourself should pick but you should look for these qualities in the location.
1-preferably located next to or infront of a window which makes the tank more vibrant
2-an area far from a bedroom so the filter doesnt annoy you
3-an area where you can show off your fish tank to visitors
4-away from electronics because tank maintenance gets everything wet.
5-somewhere where you can just sit and enjoy
