White Vinegar . . . Pour 2 cups or more into the toilet, make sure it gets on all the Hard Water Stains. Let it sit 10 - 20 min. Scrub with toilet brush or the rough side of a sponge. Repeat if needed. You can spray it onto shower walls or wash a shower curtain in the washer with vinegar, it will look brand new. It removes calcium build up too.

Take your lid off the back of your toilet, and before your tank fills up, pour about 1-2 cups of vinegar in your tank, so that it fills your toilet bowl up. Let it sit for a while, I do this once a month, and leave it soaking for about 30 minutes. (First time I did it, I had to do it a couple of times before I got all the stain out, but it worked better than anything else.) Scrub your toilet, and then flush. . .rinse repeat till you get it all out. (Depending on your stain, it may take more than one time. . .like I said, I do mine once a month now, and no stains get on the toilet bowl now)

I found these pumice stones at an industrial supply company. Basically they grind off the stains. Doesn't hurt the porcelain, but I'm sure they'd be murder on a plastic bathtub.

Gloves, goggles and plenty of ventilation. Pour 1 cup of muriatic acid around the sides of the bowl. Brush and flush. Whew, nasty but effective.

Pumice stones work real well, you can pick them up in the nail care items or foot care items at Walmart and it is a cheap fix. Just put on a pair of rubber gloves and have at it! Good luck.
