Well bless you for sounding as though you are doing a paper on young people and the dangers of inhalant use! I'm not sure about the stats on high schoolers who have used inhalants or 'huffed' (inhaled fumes), but there was at least one study which showed that one in four students by eighth grade had used inhalants. Frightening!
A friend has a traumatic brain injury (tbi) and other permanent damage including bone marrow (the fatty inner lining of the bones) damage due to huffing at age 12. She's now in her 30's and still has the damage and problems from inhalant use which includes poor balance and coordination and a grating at the back of her neck when nodding her head up and down. Very sad and tragic that kids just don't know the true consequences of such reckless behavior. The products used as inhalants can be found right underneath the bathroom sink or in the garage. I would just like to add that people do get nitrous oxide which is administered by a licensed dentist, however, it is not given the same way that kids use inhalants for getting that cheap, quick high. And on that note, whipped cream dispensers are a form of nitrous oxide and it can be very debilitating to the central nervous system as the other inhalants.

Anyone who has had their wisdom teeth pulled has tried inhalants.. They use Nitrous Oxide N20 (laughing gas) when removing those teeth.
Many people who have had their wisdom teeth pulled grow up to be very successful in life.
