Where do i locate the information needed to program a universal remote for my garage opener. I don't have the original remote to match the dips to.

There should be a panel on the back of the opener with the same DIP panel. Just match them up. Good Luck!

If you have the type with the switches(older models) you should be able to look at the opener, probably inside a cover, and find a matching set of switches. Make sure they are all set the same in both the opener and the remote.
The newer models generally have a "learn" button on the opener, which you push in and a light generally starts blinking. While its blinking usually within 10-20 seconds push the button on the remote. The light stops blinking telling you it has learned the frequency from the remote. You should be good to go.

First thing I need to know is what year was your operator made?There are several types of remotes or transmitters .Craftsman operators are made by Chamberlain Liftmaster.There are some that can not be replaced.Starting from older to newer.Dip switches are located in the back panel of the operator,There are "Smart Codes or Learn code buttons.these will be color coded.If you would like to "E"mail me I will reply with what you need.My "e" mail is dhester@pioneerdoorak.com.I have 16 years on garage door & operator repair.
