Gah.. I'm confuzzled. Apparently you use some weird thing called 'FOIL' to help.. [First, Outer, Inner, Last] When it has a '*2* it's an exponent to the second power... any way to figure it out works. Thank you.

1. (3C*2 - 2)(4C*2 + 1)
2. (2x + 1)(x*2 - 2x + 1)
3. (3y - 1)(4y*2 - 2y + 2)

its lierarll what it says... you multiply the the 1st term by the lst in the 2nd term... so for #1 it would be 12C^4 and then you multiply the inner ones by each other and then the outer ones by each other and then the last ones and then combine like terms... and for #2 and #3 you dont FOIL you just multiply the 2x by the x^2 and the -2x and then 1 and do the same with the one and then combine like terms

Let's look at problem 1. I use ^ to denote raising to a power, or exponentiation.

First: do the two left hand ones 3C^2 * 4C^2 = 12C^4
Outer: 3C^2 * 1 = 3C^2
Inner: -2 * 4C^2 = -8C^2
Last - do the right hand ones = -2 * 1 = -2

Add all terms together: 12C^4 + 3C^2 -8C^2 -2
Combine inner terms: 12C^4 - 5C^2 -2

FOIL is a mnemonic for remember to multiply each portion of these algebraic expressions.
