I think the term is bloody murder which comes from the fact that people scream like all get out when they find people dead. Blue may come from the term screaming till your blue in the face which is caused by screaming sooooo much you cant catch your breath and turn blue but secondarily means you can yell and scream but get nowhere so scream all you want. Hope that's what your were getting at.

is that a knock off from "bloody murder''? or maybe she screamed til her face was blue?
but the term "bloody murder" an thesuch just means they screamed as loud as possible as if being murdered by someone

My mom said that when I was younger..lol -I had forgotten.

I believe it's a way to soften a curse word. In Britain the word "bloody" is considered a curse word when not used literally. Ex. "You're a bloody idiot." Just like the word Darn was substituted for Damn, -Blue was substituted for bloody.
