Hi again,
my 7 and a half month old boy will not go to sleep by himself in the cot. We wrap him in a cot sheet as per some advice from our parenting helpline, and put him into his cot awake. This used to work, but now it doesn't anymore. He will kick himself out of the wrap and sing and play to keep himself awake. He ends up the other way around in his cot and playing with the sheets. When we put him to sleep on us, he falls asleep fine, but as soon as we put him in his cot he wakes up and kicks and plays again...He is definitely tired, but I can't seem to make him fall asleep in his cot anymore. I need help because I don't want us to fall into the habit of putting him to sleep on us. Any suggestions???

If he is playing quietly in his cot, let him go with it. He will fall asleep eventually, but every time you go and get him to bring him to sleep on you, you teach him that all he has to do is keep playing long enough and you'll come and get him...you're actually teaching him to do the exact opposite of your goal.

Leave him alone in the cot, even if he starts to cry...he'll learn to put himself to sleep when he realizes that you're not coming for him.

Good luck!

Let him play til he falls asleep in his cot, and then in the morning wake him up at the normal time. This will help him to fall asleep when you want him to because he will be tired. He will get used to the routine after a while. At least he's not laying in his cot screaming, right? Just make sure that you get him up when he needs to be up, so that he doesn't turn into a night baby. That would be really hard on you.

Why a cot? Does he have a crib? Let him cry himself to sleep. Its hard at first but it won't last long and he will learn to get himself to sleep.

Just leave him, he will play himself to sleep. My six month old daughter does the same I put her in her crib she will play, talk, sit up, grab the rails and stand, and call to me, but she always falls a sleep. It's good for them to learn to put themselves to sleep.

if he isnt crying then leave him to fall asleep on his own. he will drift off eventually. if he cries go and comfort him but dont pick him up. let him know your there....maybe you can stay with him until he falls asleep.

Just continue to stick with your routine! Babies are so unpredictable! Is he trying to get his days and nights mixed up? Is there activities going on around him to make him alert?
