Well there is no standardized national entrance exam for nursing school that I know of currently. (I could be wrong, it won't be the first time) As far as I know, only the exam to get licensed is a national exam and the same in every state. Each school in each state can give whatever kind of entrance exam they like. Different school are testing for different qualities. A 2 yr technical school and a 4 yr BSN program will be testing for different strengths in your educational background.
Call the school where you will be taking the exam and ask, to be sure what your test will contain and if it is timed. They can give you an idea on what to study and are usually happy to answer your questions. If it helps, my test was timed, I live in the New England. Good Luck !!
Unlike 'MikeInRI' my test questions were all relating to Math, Sciences, English Comprehesion, Biology etc. There were no questions that did NOT count toward the final score. So call the school and ask and be sure.

Do Not Count Towards Your Score
As you can see in the information above, the only sections that you really have to prepare for are the mathematics and reading comprehension sections. The other 5 sections of the exam do not count towards your score and are mostly an analysis of your opinions, attitude, learning behavior, and reading ability. Consequently, the below information will concentrate on the sections that count towards your score and really matter.
Score Analysis
3 Reading Score Levels
The Reading Passages are on a 10th grade reading level.
(Independent, Instructional, Frustration)- Most students receive the instructional reading level. Only the very best reader’s will receive an independent rating.
Composite Score
Combination of math and reading composite scores will help to determine your “grade level” of these skills.
Reading Rate
200-450 words per minute with 10th grade level material is normal.
Stress Level
High scores indicate a lot of stress in your life, that may interfere with nursing school.
