I have done this very trip before. There is a toilet sewer pipe that runs from Pa. to N Carolina. Get yourself a life raft or inner tube and every time someone flushes there toilet you will move about 125 feet.

what part of PA u driving from? From the east, ur best bet is to hop on 95 south, and it will take you right to N.Carolina. From the west, just hop on the Turnpike (I-76), take that east to 95 south. As far as country roads..ur better off on the highway, takin a bus, or a train. Trains are fairly cheap and are much better than a bus, and faster.

Walk or cycle it. Make it a holiday, a journey. I've no idea how far you're going, but a good couple of day's travelling does wonder for your attitude to the world.

Go to google earth or map quest and put in your locations and then directions and specify no interstates.
